Mystery of why Roman buildings have survived so long has been unraveled, scientists say
"...white chunks in the concrete, referred to as lime clasts, gave the concrete the ability to heal cracks that formed over time. The white chunks previously had been overlooked as evidence of sloppy mixing or poor-quality raw material."
"The new finding could help make manufacturing today's concrete more sustainable, potentially shaking up society as the Romans once did."
Journalists ca. 15000 BC: "Agriculture, the new alternative to the hunting and gathering technologies that we all know and love is difficult to master and only seems to be performed by nerds that have criticized the gods for various reasons. Some agriculturists even run their own 'instances' called 'farms', which then 'federate' with other farms, leading to village formation and so-called 'markets' which surely will never catch on".
Pigeon busted flying into prison with a backpack of meth. Expert from the Vancouver Poultry & Fancy Pigeon Association said there are two plausible ways to use a pigeon to deliver drugs. One, someone could throw the pigeon over the fence into the prison. Second, an inmate could spend months training the bird from the inside to recognize the prison as its home. Someone would get the bird to the outside, fasten its cargo and release it to return home to the prison. https://boingboing.net/2023/01/06/pigeon-busted-flying-into-prison-with-a-backpack-of-meth.html
