As a white male growing up in rural Oregon it took me living in NYC, DC, and Oakland, before I fully understand what all the concern and talk about crime in cities was about in this country. I absolutely love all three of these towns. Diverse and rich spaces with their own deep histories.

I am the guy who brings my Swiss army knife with wagon of recyclables to building recycling center to break down my boxes. I do my neighbors too. Building maintenance guy happen to be on floor taking in recycling. He said, oh you are the guy who breaks his stuff down. Rare beast. ;-(

@joelvanderwerf My wife's grandpa was a crusty dude and avid Cheez-Its eater. On his deathbed, with family all around, he was asked by a priest if he accepted Jesus into his heart. He said that he accepted Cheez-Its into his heart...chuckled...then died.
