I have been hunting for a word to describe the people in my timeline telling stories about AI that wasn’t offensive, and I finally found it — I feel that the majority of people telling stories in my timeline about AI right now are being obsequious.

When you get sick of technology don't check out completely, stick around long enough to be a pain in the ass and throw a wrench in the gears.

We've passed from the "Internet is Wrong" phase to the "Internet is Not Real" phase.

I was writing a blog post and wanted to make sure I was using the right words to talk about LGBTQIA+ issues--I Googled, and the National Athletic Trainers' Association LGBTQIA+ Terminology 101 comes up as top results. Great resource. Good to see athletics powering this.

We don't drink much anymore and had some brand new bottles of wine and spirts we wanted to get rid of. The neighbor across the hall regularly has food and other deliveries that sit in the hall for a day. We put our alcohol in a bag and set by their door. It was gone within a couple hours.

How long do you cook an imaginary turkey that weighs 18 lbs?

A new word for my vocabulary, "extractivism".

We are doing three pies for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. That is it. Three pies. Nothing else. Pumpkin. Pecan. Apple. Done.

In every tech organization, there are some people that seem to know every system, everybody, and every problem. They're super helpful, and save coworkers months of wasted efforts, by short-circuiting dead end paths, sharing efficient workflows, knowing which services already exist, and generally having great technical judgement.

*None of those skills are quantifiable on performance reviews, other than peers saying thanks (if they're lucky).

*Many underrepresented engineers fill these roles.

@suzisteffen I actually enjoy the work -- I know most people don't. Make sure to find Audrey on BSky, she is starting to use it.

I write my newsletter for @api at the end of each week, then I edit it Monday morning before sending out -- it is a great way to understand the previous week and then prepare for the upcoming week.
