New blog post: “This Mastodon Will Explode, Session 1” https://bavatuesdays.com/this-mastodon-will-explode-session-1/
The tech press doesn't understand that Twitter just killed the only thing that ever made them innovative:
3rd party access to their API
This should be a bigger story because, in reality, almost all of Twitter innovations came from 3rd parties -- including the word "tweet" itself.
🚨 BREAKING: This week, @CenDemTech & 6 technologists with expertise in online recommendation systems filed an amicus brief in Gonzalez v Google. The brief urges the U.S. #SupremeCourt to hold that #Section230’s liability shield applies to claims against interactive computer service providers based on their recommendation of third-party content, because those claims treat providers as publishers. Twitter quietly updates its developer agreement with a clause banning third-party clients, after claiming the company was enforcing "long-standing API rules" (Karissa Bell/Engadget)

"Third-party clients don't make us any money so of course we're not allowing them" is a bold stance from the one platform that doesn't share revenue with its creators. #Twitter

I still have the original Twitter API Field Guide style documentation from back in the day. I collect old APIs. I am that guy you drive by their house on highway in the desert and they have a bunch of old APIs in their yard. https://twitter-field-guide.apievangelist.com/
The Twitter OpenAPI is gone - https://api.twitter.com/labs/2/openapi.json Luckily I have a cached copy, and trying to figure out how to add to my API museum. https://gist.github.com/kinlane/173d89eb8a9cd7dfc4e77fb3bb63dda2

Getty Images is also suing Stable Diffusion, in UK court.
"Stability AI did not seek any such license from Getty Images and instead, we believe, chose to ignore viable licensing options and long‑standing legal protections in pursuit of their stand‑alone commercial interests."

@nathan Understood. I seem some of it through the Ops lens i have with customers from the API lifecycle, but also sprawling across it--an OpenAPI / Swagger is basically a massive config for this and people struggle. Thanks for sharing. I am working on enablement efforts as part of my JSON Schema team -- see what I can cook up to assist people.
@nathan What do you think people find some daunting about configs? Unknown format? Size? Screwing up worse? Other?
